Children & Adolescents
Dr. Annie provides thorough assessment and evidence-based treatment for anxiety disorders, including generalised anxiety, panic, phobias, and obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD).
Anxiety can show up in many ways – constant worry, panic, intrusive or distressing thoughts, compulsions, health fears, social anxiety, or a body that never quite switches off.
Because anxiety often has roots in earlier experiences, treatment goes beyond symptom management. Dr. Annie draws on a range of approaches – including EMDR, psychotherapy and, where helpful, medication – tailored to your needs and goals. As a GP with psychotherapy training, she can address both the psychological and physical dimensions of anxiety in one place.

Adult ADHD
Assessment and support for existing patients and families.
The recent change in guidelines has now enabled Dr Annie to offer continuity of care for those current patients undergoing assessment for ADHD.
This can be an important contributor to functional difficulties, and treatment of ADHD can be complementary to trauma psychotherapy where there is underlying intersection of ADHD and trauma.

What is EMDR Therapy?
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing) is an evidence-based therapy that helps the brain and body recover from distressing experiences, either past events or future anxieties, and bring about a sense of ease.
By reconnecting the body and mind, EMDR can reduce the emotional intensity of painful experiences, calm the nervous system, and help you feel more in control of your thoughts and emotions.
Meet Dr Annie
Perinatal Mental Health GP & EMDR Practitioner
Hello, I am Dr Annie. I’m a GP with a special interest in psychological medicine, and a particular passion for perinatal mental health – supporting women and families through pregnancy, birth and the early years of parenthood. Alongside my private practice, I work as a Mental Health GP in a public Perinatal Mental Health Service and provide education and training to GPs and health professionals on perinatal mental health. I also have extensive experience helping patients with trauma, anxiety and ADHD.
I can help you understand your current difficulties, diagnose and treat a range of conditions, and provide brief or long-term psychotherapy — including EMDR — to improve your symptoms and quality of life. With more than 20 years’ experience as a GP caring for people with complex medical and mental health conditions, I understand how deeply mind and body are connected.
I offer EMDR with advanced training, helping you make sense of what’s happening in your life and reconnect with your own capacity for healing. My approach is warm, collaborative, and grounded in real-life experience.
I’m especially passionate about helping:
- Perinatal patients navigating trauma, anxiety, or mood changes during conception, pregnancy, and early parenthood.
- People who continue to suffer the after effects of traumatic experiences
- Adults seeking assessment, clarity and practical support for ADHD
Alongside my private practice, I also work as a Mental Health GP in a public Perinatal Mental Health Service.
I look forward to meeting you and working together.

Why Psychological Medicine Matters
Psychological medicine bridges the gap between medical and mental health care.
As a GP with advanced psychological therapies training, I can assess and treat both the physical and emotional factors contributing to distress, and discern how they interact. Sometimes symptoms that look psychological have medical roots, and sometimes the reverse.
This integrative approach helps me understand the whole picture of what you’re experiencing and provide care that’s both compassionate and clinically sound.
Intensive EMDR Sessions
Dr Annie now offers intensive EMDR sessions for those who prefer to work in longer, concentrated blocks. An intensive consists of a 75-minute session followed by a 3-hour session on a separate day.
Intensives allow multiple targets to be processed in one sitting, or deeper psychotherapeutic work -making them an efficient option. Standard weekly or fortnightly sessions remain available, and many patients begin with standard sessions before moving to an intensive.
Medicare rebates apply, and out-of-pocket costs reduce significantly once the Extended Medicare Safety Net is reached. A detailed fee guide is available on request.

Compassionate, Recovery-Focused Care
I work with people who want to feel calm, capable, and connected — in themselves, in their relationships, and in daily life. Getting there takes care that recognises how closely your mind, body, and nervous system work together.
Trauma, stress, and neurodivergence can make balance hard to find, even when you’ve tried everything – leaving you feeling overwhelmed, misunderstood, or unsure where to turn.
You don’t have to navigate that alone. I combine medical insight with trauma-informed, evidence-based therapies — including EMDR — to help you make sense of what’s happening, calm your nervous system, and create new pathways to healing.

1. Book an appointment
We’ll talk through what’s been happening and the kind of support you are seeking.

2. Work together
We’ll get to the root of what’s driving your symptoms, reconnect mind and body, and settle your nervous system so healing can begin.

3. Rediscover ease,
self compassion and joy
You’ll move through life with greater confidence, calm, and connection.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is a Mental Health GP and how can you be part of my care team?
As a Mental Health GP, I can be your mental health practitioner while you continue to see your regular GP for other health needs. I’m not replacing your GP. Instead, I work alongside them to provide coordinated care focused specifically on your mental health and wellbeing.
This means you don’t need a psychologist or psychiatrist to receive ongoing psychological therapy and support. We can build a therapeutic relationship where I provide both medical assessment and psychological treatment for mental health concerns, while collaborating with your regular GP for your broader healthcare needs.
For many people, this integrated approach makes seeking help easier as you receive both medical insight and psychological support from one trusted mental health practitioner.
Will I need a Mental Health Care Plan?
A Mental Health Care Plan is not needed to see Dr Annie.
How do I book an appointment?
Appointments can be made directly through Catherine’s House Private Practice, Mater Hospital, Raymond Terrace, South Brisbane. You’re welcome to call (07) 3163 2584 or email ch.private@mater.org.au to arrange a time. Once confirmed, you’ll receive an intake form and booking details. Please take a moment to read the clinic’s cancellation policy before your first appointment.
Is a referral required?
As I’m a GP, you don’t need a referral to see me. However, if you have one from your current GP, it can be helpful for background information and continuity of care.
Do you accept referrals from other health professionals?
While not required, referral letters are welcome via Medical Objects or by email to ch.private@mater.org.au
Where are you located and is parking available?
Grass Tree Group is located in the Watkins Medical Centre. It has a cornerstone parking for the building, and is easily accessible by public transport.
Are telehealth appointments available?
Yes. After your first in-person consultation, telehealth appointments are available as needed. Medicare currently requires at least one face-to-face appointment every 12 months, but I always aim to make care as flexible and accessible as possible.
Are Medicare rebates available?
Yes. Medicare rebates apply to all consultations, including those under a Mental Health Care Plan. Once you reach the Medicare Safety Net, your out-of-pocket costs are reduced. If you’re unsure about eligibility, I’m happy to talk through your options.

What happens in the first session?
Your first appointment is a space for us to get to know each other. We’ll explore what’s been happening for you, your current symptoms, and what you’d like to change. From there, we’ll create a plan together that feels supportive, realistic, and aligned with your goals.
How long does therapy usually last?
Every person and every story is different. Some people find a few focused sessions are enough, while others benefit from longer-term support. We’ll review your progress regularly to make sure the pace and structure feel right for you.
What’s your cancellation policy?
Your appointment time is reserved just for you. If you need to change or cancel, please provide at least two business days’ notice. Late cancellations (under 48 hours) incur a fee. Please take a moment to read the clinic’s cancellation policy.

Do you collaborate with other practitioners?
